Regular readers may have noted my reviews of the Divine Art Avison recordings last year, and another admirable disc now joins the growing catalogue. The latest two-disc set comprises the Six Sonatas for Two Violins and a Bass (Disc 1) and the Six Sonatas for Harpsichord , with accompaniments for two violins and a violoncello (Disc 2). The performers are again the outstanding Avison Ensemble, with Pavlo Beznosiuk and Caroline Balding on violins, Richard Tunnicliffe on cello, and Robert Howarth on organ and harpsichord. The music is lovely, and the works are performed with insight and conviction.
